The EcoDéchets FabLab is a project of the Evangelical University of Africa, funded by the Institute of Francophonie for Sustainable Development (IFDD) as part of the project for the deployment of technologies and environmental innovations for sustainable development and poverty reduction (PDTIE). The UEA EcoDéchets FabLab is the first FabLab in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The concept of a FabLab (Fabrication Laboratory) originated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the 1990s. Its goal is to enhance the management and valorization of waste as a digital learning space that advocates inclusivity above all.
Beyond this objective, the EcoWaste FabLabs remain open to the public like all other FabLabs worldwide, providing access to various tools for the design and realization of objects and prototypes. In addition, support is provided for the creation of start-ups. It is a framework that makes prototyping and experimentation accessible, allowing young people and women to express their proactivity. They can primarily contribute to the production of environmental solutions and create their own employment opportunities.
